Today in the city it is very hot and I am feeling lazy and uninspired. I have a full schedule this week and next and then we are off on vacation. So for the week of July 18-24, Accidental Icon will be on break. If I know me, a change of scene will do the world of good and I will return full of new ideas, schemes and energy.
Anyway the details in this photo are more about the earrings (Paris vintage), the haircut (Jun at Tokuyama), the sunglasses (Prada) and my tote (CDG). Love them all.
So since I am feeling so uninspiring today I did a Pinterest board of Summer Uniforms for those who prefer black and white. At least there you may find some modicum of inspiration.
Which uniform would you pick and why?
Fab hair cut. In England summer has yet to arrive so summer uniforms all on hold.
Will you have a "uniform" when it does?
In anticipation I’ve had a pedicure and painted my toenails an interesting shade of purple. I have my prescription sunglasses at the ready. When the summer arrives it’ll be layers of silk, cotton or linen. Your idea of "uniforms" has got me thinking.
I luv your haircut, Lyn! It is too fab for words.
I, for one, am thrilled you are going on a vacay to Toronto! So thrilled . . . it has been extremely hot here in Toronto all week – high humidity – but our summers, like New York, are so short I am not complaining. Plus, I crave heat and luv to sit out in my beautiful backyard and read and enjoy the summer’s day.
As for picking uniforms, etc. – tough one for me but as you are so honest with your readers I shall be honest with you and any of your readers caring to read my comment. – as I have mentioned I have been very ill for many months and am still recovering. I am just six feet tall and I lost 35 pounds. I currently look way too thin but I am feeling so good and getting better and the weight gain is underway. So, during the winter I could obviously camouflage my extreme thin-ness in a parka but not so much in the summer. I am constantly surprised and somewhat offended by the comments of complete strangers as to my thin frame. Some so hurtful. However, I remain true to myself always and just am rejoicing in the fact that I am better and feel 100% better and am now able to resume my normal life – so, I take no notice of these insensitive individuals.
So, I have to say my uniform of choice these days is a coat of armour (ha ha ha) called ‘self-confidence" sprinkled with a good amount of self-awareness and, dressed in this, I can ignore nasty, nosey and inquiring stares and comments from the meanies and just appreciate the kindness of strangers like the owner of a health food shop yesterday who gave me a new kind of dark chocolate protein bar she just got in. Kindness always counts!
Enjoy your day and let me know more about your Toronto stay locale so I can select a convenient spot. Hugs, Kat.
Talk about authenticity! Thank you for sharing your story and so glad you are on the mend. Thankfully there are usually enough kind people to balance out the unhappiness and unkindness of those who feel they must speak when they are uninvited to do so.
Every time I get it cut Jun adds a new little twist. Cannot wait to get away!

I feel a summer slump too…
I have watched your hair and it’s interesting how a slight change or angle in the cut alters the look, but is in keeping with your style.
Nothing like the inspiration that comes after time off.

Enjoy your vacation! I am expecting changes! Can’t pick one uniform from list, it depends on the mood.
Thank you my dear!

Thank you my dear!
In addition to the haircut, the bag, earrings and sunglasses, I also like the top.

You have instantly become my fashion savior. I first found your pic on Pinterest where you are wearing black and white with Converse tennis shoes. You answered my quest. I am a 61 year old studio artist, and small wedding biz owner. Over the past several months I’ve been telling friends I need a way to look artsy when I’m dressed casual. (But not so casual as my painting clothes) I’m not the Bohemian-Santa Fe-sandals -and-frizzy-hair-chick. Even though I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area, I’m much more a New York/Northeast fan. I wanted a look that is a combination of simple lines, black and white with just that touch of funky. You nailed it! I’ve been saying I’m at a fashion crossroads and have decided I want to look funky, not frumpy. after literally two months of saying to myself, "I would love to see other outfits that woman wears", I found your blog just this morning…you made my day! I know there is someone I can look to for a bit of direction. I’m seeing an emphasis on shoes, glasses, and earrings to give such a very basic look a unique signature. You have a new fan. Thank you so very much, Linda Shobe
