Wednesday in the world of social media is known as “Hump Day”. Apparently if you can get over the “hump” of this day, the weekend is in sight and you are given a burst of new energy. I must confess I feel as though I am still climbing the hump a day later. I have two days of work that are full of university responsibilities to get through before I am far enough up the hump to look up and see the sky. As you might have surmised from my earlier post about hurricanes (which has now been upgraded to tornado status) it has been an exciting whirlwind this year of fashion week activities: photo shoots, fashion shows, new people and events. I will write about some of these experiences in the weeks ahead when the dust has settled and I have time to reflect. In the meantime I am taking a breath and looking ahead to the weekend when I can respond to your comments and most importantly have some thinking time. I envision wearing something old and comfy and turning off my phone. My very worn out but now soft jeans are calling my name. Today I need to select an outfit that will pull me up and give me a little lift to get over the “hump”. Any thoughts?

What do you wear when you need a “lift”?
Love your blog!! When I need a boost I wear RED….never fails…its hard to be anything but fabulous in Red!!
When I need a boost–depends whether it is a boost in energy or equilibrium or self-confidence, or a mix of all three! If I need to feel powerful I need a close to the body silhouette, and I will pay attention to shoes–and likely wear at least a bit of a heel. And if I need equilibrium I wear flats, and a flowing kind of silhouette. Self- confidence building comes from wearing something that feels good, a favorite piece.
Colors also play a role. Whatever kind of need I have is usually addressed through color, or its absence. That varies over time. These days, I look to indigo whether I need energy or calm.

I start with a great bra and panties, add white, skinny jeans with a black top, and end by accessorizing with some of my favorite Indian silver cuff bracelets, a large ring, and some big silver earrings to compliment my long, white hair. It boosts my confidence, makes me feel "at home" with myself, it isn’t over-done, and the jewelry reflects the artist in me. I also get a lift from reading your posts and often responding to them as I am today.
DNA, since my teenage years, tends to tip me toward the melancholy. Thus, I make it a choice each day to gravitate toward, place before me, people, simple pleasures, events that are positive, life-giving, and uplifiting, those things which contain true, authentic, and lovely value. Certainly, I labor to reciprocate the same. Ever since I can remember, dressing each day was a joy for me, definitely not a mechanical, nor laborious task. And, believe me, if I start to head out the door and what I’m wearing doesn’t feel right, I change it immediately because I’ve gone through days when I regretted my choice. It creates an encumbering experience. So, especially when the weekend seems to feel more like a fata morgana than a truly approaching, relieving entity, comfort is quintessential, followed by that which makes me feel strong, balanced, and feminine at the same time. For work, it is a skirt and a beautiful white blouse that maybe hints at a pretty, yet oh so discreet bra underneath, or a dress that styles toward minimal and smart, coupled with comfortable heels because I love my legs, love the way I feel when I’m walking in heels, sexy, confident, and professional. And because I have a huge, often times hidden, Boho spirit, I like to contrast the stylish conservative with a couple of layers of vintage necklaces and sparkling, but understated earrings. When it looks good, feels good, you sure know it, and that can make a huge difference in a day. And another dimension coming significantly into play in my daily choices is becoming more aware through conscientious research that no animals or people have been harmed, divested, or exploited in the process of my endeavors to look and feel beautiful. That is a topic of gravitas, not an easy one, and highly personal, respectfully.

Navy Whistles shirt dress, navy trousers and red or cerise lipstick and nail varnis. At the moment I’m "podgy" round the middle so I need to make sure if I’m feeling in need of a lift I don’t wear something tight that reminds me of the work in progress that is my waistline!
When I need a lift I often step a little out of my norm. It might be touch of colour or a garment that I don’t wear often.. something that feels fresh and a little different often gives me a lift.. and then the next day I return to my all black 🙂
