Right now I feel swamped by the flood of content that starts with the assumption that we have to make a whole lot of changes during 2019. I am a fan of change, don’t get me wrong, but how about we take a moment with the idea that maybe we, just as we are at the end of 2018, is enough. And in being enough, there are just some things about yourself, good and not so good, that you have to accept. What a relief just saying that. I, with all my imperfections, am enough.

For countless New Year’s I have attempted to change certain imperfections but they remain intractable. Now rather than expend time and money trying to get rid of them them, I find it more useful to invest time and money into reducing any negative effects.

Ironically it is embracing my imperfections and being creative in how I respond to them that gives me confidence. So my New Year’s post is about how partnering with, and investing in, some Perricone MD products, has made me better able to maintain a fairly stable feeling of confidence, physical and mental well-being, given the flawed (and aging) human being that I am.

Imperfection Number 1: Sometimes I Take On Too Many Things (and think I have to do it by myself)

So as is perfectly illustrated in my previous post, A Hot Mess, I have a tendency to “overeat” life. My eyes are often bigger than my stomach so to speak. In fairness living an active, caring, engaged and productive life does take time and energy. And yes that is the kind of life I want, like you, to live.

Guess what? I am about to do it again! I have a plate that is already full even before the ball dropped in Times Square. I know that there will be times during the next 5 months where I have little or no time for all the kinds of self-care I need to maintain the state of health and beauty I achieved in 2018.

What gives me confidence that I won’t become a “Hot Mess” this year is that as you know, since summertime I have been partnering with Perricone MD and have used the opportunity as a way to build a more solid foundation for a healthy life, even when the tornados I invite into mine blow off the roof!

Perricone MD’s three tier approach to healthy skin or what I call “a coherent approach to engaged living” involves three tiers and I have been doing them all in this later half of 2018:

Tier 1: Eating an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Tier 2: Taking Targeted Nutritional Supplements

Tier 3: Applying Topical Skincare with Anti-Inflammatory Properties

The Perricone MD website is organized so it can be a supportive partner. For each part of the approach, for every product, there is an explanation, along with science that answers questions you may have about how and why a product will work. So for a Born Seeker like me who is always asking questions, it’s not only a convenient way to get products, it is also a resource.

Imperfection Number 2: When I Am Really Busy I Throw the Baby Out With the Bathwater (doing something is better than doing nothing)

Sometimes I get in a state of being overwhelmed where when I can’t do it all, I end up doing nothing. So rather than do an entire skincare routine, I don’t do any. If I can’t make healthy food, then I just eat fast food. What I like about Perricone MD is that there are so many choices that no matter how overwhelmed you may feel, or if you have to make cuts in your budget, there is always an easy and good choice to make.

You can choose to just target the most important skincare concern you have or have more of comprehensive routine. Since I often run into the cold winter without a hat or scarf and am traveling in a city and on a subway that is pretty polluted, even when rushed, I at least use my Essential Fx Intensive Moisturizer. Click below to find out more about what makes it so good.

When I don’t have time to cook and prepare a healthy meal there are choices about the levels of supplements I can add, and the Essential Multivitamin is always the option to keep me at baseline healthy, particularly when it comes to cardiovascular, bone and joint health.

Imperfection Number 3: Taking Unhealthy Shortcuts Because Lettuce is the Only Green Vegetable I Like.

I seem to have a terrible propensity to not like foods that are good for me. Case in point being most green vegetables. I often skip lunch, especially when I am at university or traveling and end up having too big a dinner. The solution to both problems: Supergreens. It’s a blend of 11 green vegetables, comes in single serve doses, tastes delicious (not like usual green colored drinks) and has the added bonus of Perricone MD’s proprietary NRF2 ANTIOXIDENT SUPPORT COMPLEX. It’s transportable and as long as you have water you can detoxify, nourish your body from the inside out and protect against environmental aggravators (like polluted cities and subways). The best for me though is after I drink it I have so much energy and mental clarity. I also do not need to use on those days when I have a power green salad so the investment over time is a good one.

Finally the transparency part. This post is sponsored by Perricone MD. The words and assertions are mine and authentic because I have been following the program. Yes, some of the products I am writing about are expensive. Reducing the impact of something I have no control over, like aging and offering healthy and quick options when I overextend and don’t have time for self-care are important to me when I do cost/benefit analysis.

What are your priorities when you do a cost/benefit analysis about personal health and beauty investments?
