Details: Accidental Icon Wears
Taupe Linen Coat: Elm Design, Grey Leggings: Elm Design, Grey Bag: Louis Vuitton, Grey Suede Shoes: Sylvia Fiorentina, Earrings: Vintage 1970’s Lucite
With a piece that is monochrome, long and voluminous like the linen coat I am wearing above, there needs to be some kind of contrast. That means it comes down to the details. The sleeves of this coat that come to a point at my hand are an example of a lovely detail. In this case accessories deserve my attention more than usual and I chose a darker tone for the shoes and the bag. Taupe is not a usual color choice for me but I fell in love with the garment and wanted to find a way to make it work for my tone and coloring. The cut of the coat gives me the opulence and the fabric choice, linen gets me to playful.
That coat is fabulous! Those irregular hems get me every time.
Linen takes the dye beautifully. If you were feeling daring, you could always dip your coat in a grey dye bath. Linen also shrinks, so unless you know your coat is washable, it would be risky. It’s beautiful on you the way it is though. Thanks again for the details. You look so elegant.
What a fantastic idea as I do love grey. It might be able to take a little shrinking as it is a bit large. Perhaps I will get the courage, brilliant of you to suggest it.

Beautiful!
It’s all about the details, and love your choice of accessories. The Victoria Irving details remind me of sumptuous vintage silk satin robes.
You described my feeling about color exactly, it just doesn’t feel right. I just plain feel weird in it. I admire and love it on others just not on me.

As Donald Kaufman says about paint, it’s less about the hue than the tone. In the case of your wonderful linen coat, it’s more about the architectural cut than the color — which does, by the way, look marvelous in the photo.
A question because I am curious — you write that your blog is for the urban woman who "walks the fine line between rebellion and convention because she has to" — what do the "conventional" women in your life wear? Your colleagues? Friends?
That’s a great question. Many of my colleagues wear very classic and tailored suits and or separates that would work in a corporate office. I guess you might say a traditional professional look. Same with dresses, very tailored and classic looks. As you can imagine I stand out.

Love those muted mellow greys. I’m so on the fence about color in general. I’ve always wondered, and continue to wonder, why I feel so strange in color and patterns also. I know I’m not alone. I wonder if it has something to do with character, or perhaps how one processes stimuli? Put me in front of a red cape and I would charge.

I’m not one normally for taupe, beige, or any washed out neutral. Saturated colour makes my heart beat faster and my blood flow.
Lately I’ve been trying to give washed out neutrals more of a chance. Last week I wore beige. Something I never do. And it didn’t kill me! LOL
I do love those grey shoes.
bisous
