Like everyone else I’m tired of winter, being bundled up and dressing in layers. It’s time to take some of them off. Whether it is those one or two pounds that you need to keep you warm or heavier makeup because you’re so pale; extra highlighter you need to make your dry skin a little brighter, I just want to shed it all like a snake. Spring is here and I am craving the sunshine and warm.
I want my clothes and my makeup to be sheer, weightless and full of light. Perricone MD’s No Makeup Makeup is really like wearing no makeup at all. You can find the full range of products and a how-to-apply video here (link to the Perricone MD website). Because of the thoughtful and scientific combination of ingredients, this makeup line does more than just give me a look- it improves my skin over time and protects my skin from that sun that I want to be kissing my face.
I start with the No Makeup Instant Blur which primes and blurs any unevenness in my skin tone, so I’m ready for my favorite product, the No Makeup Foundation Serum. This foundation is not just makeup but a renewing treatment that is designed to perfect and soften your complexion with a semi-matte finish and non-chemical SPF 30. My face literally shimmers after I apply it and it is specially formulated to be applied with your fingers which is also very liberating.
The No Makeup Concealer, another favorite, is a multi-tasker that can be used as a primer, concealer, and highlighter. As light as all the products in this line, it’s crease proof and deals with those dark circles at the same time it smoothes and brightens.
The No Makeup Bronzer, Blush and Highlighter allow you to create a perfect palette of color for your face and the No Makeup Mascara and Lipstick allow for the finishing touch.
For those of you are are new to the blog, in the interests of transparency, you should know I have a paid sponsorship with Perricone MD. However, you should also know that I do research before agreeing to promote a brand and only promote products I myself would buy and use in my everyday life and that I’d be excited to share with you.
You look liberated in this last photo!
In Puerto Rico, where I live, you hardly notice seasons’ changes. It’s like it’s summer all year round. So I kind of see this clothing variation as a little extra work. Not that I don’t enjoy the fashion, but, considering the hot flashes I’m going through with menopause and our regular hot weather, being able to wear no sleeves and skirts and shorts all year round is kind of a blessing.
About makeup, I have learned, in my early 50s, that less is more. I have not seen that “no makeup makeup” line in the island, but sure I follow their idea. I believe too much makeup over wrinkles, just make them look worse. For me, who’s being fighting against horrible dark spots in the face for like six or seven years now, a little bronzer, very black mascara and a neutral color lipstick are more than enough.
I agree with you Lillian…Less is more!…more beautiful and appealing! My mature skin looks better without a heavy foundation-I use moisturizer and light makeup to cover age spots, then highlight with bronzer and a little blush. I also love the new moisturizing mascaras!
It’s a beautiful metaphor! Shedding…leaving tattered bits behind to pursue that which is nourishing and life giving. I’m always delighted to see your liveable, comfortable styles that articulate, more than whisper, sophisticate.
What a wordsmith you are dear! Always love to read them.
You look amazing! I can’t get the link to Perricone to work. Wanted u to get credit for my purchase! Thanks
Shedding. I love it! Makeup has never been a source of creativity for me like clothes and accessories have. I need a no nonsense approach to makeup so I can forget about it and get into my day. These products sound easy to use and right in line with my values. Thanks Lyn for researching and sharing!
I’m a big fan of Perricone MD and have been using it for years.
Love the before and after pictures. Being cold natured I can relate.
I am glad you get good results from Perricone M.D makeup line and you showed us how well it works for you. But I got another thing from your article today, which is as the weather gets warmer, we all need to revamp how we wear makeup for these months and need to find the right one for us. I totally agree with less is better but we do need some coverage that will stay one no matter how hot we get. (a combination of wet and dry makeup put on extremely lightly). I found what I use by testing the product at a good makeup counter which uses a high degree of care in using samples for the customers to try. There are some product lines that don’t work for everyone and one needs to find what works best for them.
I love the color of your outfits in this article (orange-brown tones)
You have definitely changed my way of thinking since I started following your blog. You are truly one of my personal icons these days. I would have never thought as much about fashion and dressing for the way we feel and what we wish to create any day just as any great artist does. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful change to my life. I am truly enjoying these days of my well seasoned life. So much is behind me, and so much is ahead – a whole new range of thinking and making choices in who I will be any given day, and I can be several different views of this life in any single day too. What freedom! Thank you so much for your ongoing inspiration for all of us.
FYI you have a note to yourself to put in a link to Perricone in paragraph two. otherwise nice aericle.
Very Nice https://bit.ly/2BLwgT0
Thanks for this Blog. I happened on it accidentally and found it to be very refreshing and just the inspiration I needed. After going through B.C. treatments (radiation, chemo) I have emerged a very different person from inside out. I am 56 and now have short salt and pepper hair versus my previous long black hair everyone was use to including myself. I am still trying to get use to seeing photos of one me and seeing a new me in the mirror. Actually, I am loving the transformation and have the inward desire to be bolder in every area of my life especially in my attire with brighter colors. I finally bought my first pair of converse sneakers in hot pink and wore them with a white pant suit. It felt Great!
Congratulations on your recovery! Yes pleasure does come in small packages like a pair of Converse sneakers.
I am a friend of Brenda Kinsel. I am envious of her time with you at the AICI Convention. As a semi-retired Image Consultant and Home Stager, I appreciate her thoughtful and articulate views on Fashion and style, and you have added to my pleasure in that realm as well. I will try the no-make-up foundation. Thanks for the introduction to it. Your link does not work, but I will probably want to try it in a store anyway. Here in California, we have just emerged from our winter, but I am not quite ready to shed my turtleneck with a special jacket winter look. I always take a while to get re-grounded in a new season’s clothes and find out what the current me likes to wear. @sheilamerle1
Thanks for your kind comments, Brenda is amazing and I was so happy to be able to spend such a delightful time with her.
Please fix the link to the perricone website in the 2nd paragraph. I am 61 and have always dressed a little differently within a rather poor budget. You are an inspiration and who I point to when people say I should dress my age. I reply and say I am.
I have been watching you for a while now. I am a fan. Your black and white mainstays are truly stunning, and I have copied this to great effect. Hope you are not offended if I give you some honest advise. I cringe whenever you wear anything in warm colors. They do not suit you at all.
Loving the vibe and all your spontaneous yet deliberate way you introduce yourself over and over again to the world. You are definitely one of muse????
Oh yes, I won’t be going away anytime soon!
very nice and i like this type of post
You are what I am imaging myself in the future.
Great post and an excellent resource for retailers looking to connect with influencers.
Thanks!
Stylish Branded – I cannot stomach influencers on youtube or the macro internet. That being said, I appreciate Accidental Icon. Yeah, she’s an influencer, but she has something of value to contribute, and she is fit, lovely, and interesting, and her accomplishments resonate with me. Ok, I am bias.
AI, you make me feel less weird, in a city of sheeples. I am now proud of my secular morality and individual tasteful, not frumpy, style.
Being petite has some challenges as we age, and you, Accidental Icon, are most interesting to me.
The late, style diva, and fascinating, Lynn Dell Cohen, associated with Advanced Style (Seth Cohen’s Blog), and owner of Off Broadway Boutique in NYC, was someone you should watch on youtube. AI, you’re a terrific and original as her.
You look amazing! OUTSTANDING article! Thanks
Thank you!
When you cease stomping on them, I am putting in my dibs for that glorious coat and mohair scarf. The color is perfection, intense and Titian. Where does
one find such gems? I used to be Manhattan, but now am the South…never lost my leanings toward the tailored, chic and, to my eyes, devastating. I so admire your elan and being your own woman that translates to your attire…
You have added another fan to your roster/
I totally agree that less is more when it comes to makeup foundation. Just a bit of foundation, a little blush and please people do your eyebrows. My eyebrows have thinned so I have to work a bit to fill them in a little and then brush through them so it doesn’t look like you’ve drawn them on with a pencil. You need to soften the look. Eyebrows add so much to one’s expression. I paid a lot more attention to them with our masking protocol during COVID. Also use what you have for definition and don’t make then huge if that’s not your true eyebrow. Regarding fashion style, I’m an artist so I want my clothes to reflect being a bit different than a lot of my friends. I’m not talking crazy and garish but I like bright colors and a bit of layering even if it’s just a very light airy top over a knit top or camisole. I love most of the styles you present. Also I bought a curly phony ponytail that I love to pop on since my hair is very thin.
