“The key issue here is that grey hair, natural or otherwise, is like a white blanket; everything shows.” Beth Minardi.

This summer my hair is the longest it’s been since I was 40 years old. The women in my family go grey in their late 20s and 30s and I was covering mine with the auburn color that put me in mind of my Irish grandmother, someone who I had only met through photos as she died at the age I was then. That summer 28 years ago I got a tattoo and went salsa dancing; my hair, a flag flying in the summer breeze and whipping around, as my partner turned and twirled me across the dance floor in small downtown clubs.  This summer my hair is like a long white blanket, and while always important to take the right care of your grey hair, it’s even more important for me right now as there is so much more of it to see. I love the way it wraps around my face when I turn quickly, how the weight of it feels on my back. It evokes memories of that long-ago summer and my feet itch to dance. It’s easy to cut, just some trimming around the edges. I remain grateful to my women ancestors who have passed on to me the gift of an even color. Perhaps all the short haircuts my mother gave me when young resulted in my hair keeping its thickness and strength.

Regardless of what those who came before you passed down or not when it comes to how our hair ages along with us, Hair Biology offers a full line of products that address the issues that come to you and your hair as age creeps into your life. Whether it’s thinning, greying, dryness, or flyaways there’s something that can meet our aging hair needs. During summer, the harsh glare of the sun, hard water, pollution and swimming all bring challenges in maintaining the health and color of our hair whether we are naturally grey or coloring. And let’s not even talk about humidity and the frizzies.

In a previous blog post, I introduced you to the Hair Biology Silver and Glowing Collection. The line is hydrating and includes a purple color depositing shampoo and conditioner with UV protection that keeps that “white blanket” from turning yellow. They’ve introduced a new product just in time for me to coax my unruly summer strands back to sleek and shiny. The Silver Shine Serum is a lightweight cream that melts into a clear serum restoring moisture and shine while smoothing and softening.

Used on dry or damp after-shower hair, all you need is a pump or two to coax your hair into the style you want or need for the day’s adventures. What I love most is that it’s light and not greasy the way other hair serums can be.

For those who’ve colored their hair, as I did when I was 40, Hair Biology has also launched a new product line-The Vivid and Protected Collection. There’s a shampoo, conditioner and color sealing mask to keep your color-treated hair feeling like silk and preventing your color from fading. Both the Silver Shine Serum and the Vivid and Protected Collection have launched on Target online this month where you can also find the full range of Hair Biology products.
