Communing
“To be in a state of intimate, heightened sensitivity and receptivity, as with one’s surroundings”
Somehow, without realizing it, I have started to experience the world most profoundly through visual images. In this photo I felt strangely and intimately connected to the figure in this mural. I almost felt like I became a part of the scene. I have moved away from standing in front of art, as in my earlier posts, to interacting with…or even better, communing with my surroundings. I experienced the neighborhood I was in more fully through engaging with this mural, painted on a staircase and greeting me as I entered the geography.
This is a change for someone who lived life most comfortably in the world of text and abstract concepts and ideas. When I move through space now I see color, line, shape and texture first and think about what I am seeing second. This may explain why I have started to experiment more with color in my photos. Black and white is the color of print and text, and color, well that is everywhere.
So far I remain true in my clothing and styling to my black and white because I still do love the bold, graphic nature of that combination. But I must confess I have been attracted to the deep, dark, romantic and rich jewel tones that appeared in some of the Fall 2015 collections. I also find myself completely taken with the Gucci Resort collection perhaps because of the whispers and hints of vintage and nostalgia. Girls with glasses wearing long dresses is to me the perfect image of an intellectual romantic.
Have you ever had a major change in your perspective?
I do admire the graphic nature of black and white but understand how you could be lured away by the Gucci colours. I felt a bit of a 70s vibe (and perhaps something else from distant days) and did love the lurex thread through some of the garments.

Love your black and white….and that Gucci collection most definitely has a ‘vintage’ thing happening. But like you I also love a deep, dark, muted palette for autumn/winter. Dries does it beautifully…..his 2016 autumn collection was superb!
Lovely post!

I’m always enchanted by your images and your writing. Your interaction with this mural is brilliantly demonstrated as you fade in and out of the photo. I can feel your "communing" on this side of the screen. You appear as if in a meditative state. It’s mesmerizing!

I love you in black and white. So much! My perspective is changing the older I get. I’m easing up on some things and letting go of others. The deep, rich colors of fall always appeal to me. Fall feels like renewal time for me.
My perception of the place of art including fashion just changed again, after reading your post.
Now I know why I wish I could sit in the huge ancient chairs in the Egyptian collection at the Met ( I follow the rules and take pictures from afar)
Maybe the Egyptians got it and we’re far behind. Art and architecture was life size for a reason. I think you’re onto something here.
What if artists as do many clothing designers made their craft with the idea that we could communicate through more intimate connection, instead of standing back and snapping a picture. What about the concept of touchable and interactive museums with clothes and artistic collections?
Interior designers who bring the outside into interior spaces through the use of texture, light, shades and hues are onto something as long as they don’t forget we will be using what we see.
What if we dressed for the meeting we’re having with the art around us? Keep sharing your insights, something huge is rising.
Love the long gowns too…………..Gucci made my wedding shoes!!!Special Order one of a kind!!!My husband knew the Gucci’s in Italy……………..I better tell my Sons not to toss them when I depart!!!!!
