Hot summer days in the city require thoughtful choices of cuts and textiles when it comes to clothes. Since black absorbs heat it is sometimes a challenge to wear it in the height of the summer. Looser silhouettes let more air circulate and breathable fabrics like cotton are a must. Given the unpredictability air conditioning adds to the temperature, light layers are also factored into decision-making. Given these criteria my favored Japanese designers give me new reasons to love them with their kimono shapes, no body clinging couture patterns and freedom of movement. These cotton pants by Kenzo are among my favorite pairs for all of these reasons. The cotton short sleeve shirt is a old staple I return to year after year because of the loose fit and classic design. Kenzo has always embraced freedom and creativity and his playful nature finds a modern twist in the brand, now directed by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony fame. Stating he is “always influenced by the world that says I have influence”, Kenzo reminds one how something as simple as a staycation can provide inspiration and fuel creativity. Sometimes just fully inhabiting the “ordinary” and “everyday” world we live in can be breathtaking.

How does the ordinary and everyday world you move in inspire freedom and creativity in you?
Love those pants! I’m with you about loose-fitting clothing in the heat. I find especially if I have to be in the sun, being more covered up with light layers is actually cooler. New York certainly offers some outstanding "staycation" options!
These are my all time favorite pants, I just love the way they drape. I love how you do layers.

Just the other day I randomly saw someone in a crowded store wearing one of my tshirts which I was selling with my illustrations on them a few years back. What a trip! Sometimes the ordinary things do inspire and beg to be brought to life renewed.
How awesome is that?! You have inspired another through your creativity to be creative, congratulations.
The bag completely depends on where I am going and what I am doing and what I may need to carry with me. The sunglasses are always and earrings are related to mood. on this outing I was on stay cation so no work items like computers or iPads. Just needed my wallet and lipstick and the resulting feeling of freedom and lightness.
That first outfit is perfect for hot days in the city. I love hanging out in London, in summer, when people are away…
I love these pants because they can be quite elegant depending on what top and shoes you pair them with. I love clothes that can go to work or an art gallery opening or cocktail party.
It is almost like the city belongs to just you. I love the no waiting for a table at neighborhood favorites that tourist haven’t discovered.
Another fabulous look for a Summer day, love those wide pants. Comfort does not have to exclude style as you always so elegantly portray.

You always have just the right touch in choosing accessories. Do tell.
I am going to a post soon just on my earrings!

I love the background colors of this post! Soho, I think, it’s great with all of that black, beige. I can’t find a pair of pants with that silhouette that really look good on me. I love it though, have to keep looking…
I found these in a consignment shop a couple of years ago called Roundabout. They moved from Soho to Madison Avenue.
