In this week’s post I look back to AW 2015 and have some fun with a darker side of romance. Dark, moody, saturated colors that put me in mind of the Dutch painters is my palette. Dark greens, black blacks, burgundy (I think the fashion folks are calling it “marsala” this Fall) and diffuse light inspired me and I feel nostalgic and romantic in this week’s photos. A/W looks from Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Ann Demuelemeester, Stella McCartney and more offer a range of textures and fabric choices from brocades to rich velvets, moody bloom prints and fragile lace. I have to say I am especially enamored with the nerdy, intellectual take on romance that appeared in the Gucci AW 2015 collection. Models wearing glasses and velvet ties around the neck with flowers… love that. I was inspired by all of these designers in pulling together my look for this post. For more of what inspired me, see my pinterest board, Accidental Icon Loves Dark Romance.

Lyn, I love your edge – it’s so inspiring. You constantly push the envelope and you do it flawlessly.
I don’t know where I saw it, but I saw that you were featured in a Uniqlo advertisement – that is very cool. I love that designers and brands are finally taking notice of us (mature women). Congratulations, that is a huge deal.
I’m assuming you have found a good balance with your blog and all the social media that comes along with it. Please pass along any tips…I’m falling short.

I love your blog and your look! One thing I did was take a social media class at FIT. It helped you to understand the different platforms and how to use them in different ways. I found that helpful. There is no way around that it is much work, every day. I found I get the most traction on Instagram. So I really focus on that and my blog. We could chat sometime by phone or if you are ever in the city we could meet.

So, what’s wrong with me? I love this whole look so much, right down to the floral arrangement, that it moves something inside of me towards sweet tears.
P.S I just remembered what is now called Marsala pared with pink from the late fifties or sixties. Do you remember?
I do remember! How did we pull that off? I think clothing should move you, it is like good art when curated thoughtfully!
Moody blooms that was the mood. Thanks for the comment.
Love the dark romance and I have since I was a kid. Moody, I guess. The lace sleeves really put it over the top. I heard it was Merlot? Marsala, merlot, whatever, it’s beautiful.
