Jean Paul Gaultier has frequently designed masks to compliment his designs. Appearing in the form of Mexican wrestler masks, they popped up on the runway again in the Miss JP Gaultier 2015 beauty pageant. Like clothing, masks can serve the function of either hiding or projecting identities or desired selves (more on this in another story). Masks allow us to indulge in naughty behaviors that we might not do if our identity was known, something of great interest to ‘enfant terribles’. This Halloween, as a way of continuing our homage to JP, let’s do a fabulous mask.
How can you express your desired self this Halloween? What part of you do you want to hide?
