I am not one to usually follow trends. In fact, I have been very adamant about not liking all the 70’s references in the last two season’s collections. The references of course make me feel nostalgic, perhaps jolts awake the dozing rebel within, (especially when I am listening to Jim Morrison and the Doors) but I have to say I am in no mood to feel or look like a teenager again. The current references speak only to the fun we had, not the seriousness of the issues we tackled, the ones that made us grown-ups.
The one 70’s reference done up for Spring 2015 in a flirty and artistic way is fringe. I love fringe, the way it slinks around or moves in a slow seductive circle around my body. Fringe seems to always appear when women want a change. There were looks in the Spring 2015 collections that allowed bohemian girls to become sophisticated women. Proenza Schouler, Alberta Ferretti and Isabel Marant to name a few. For more elegant fringe looks see my Pinterest board: Accidental Icon Spring 2015 On the Fringe.
So for today’s photos and to welcome Spring, I decided to make fringe my statement piece.
Your fringe ensemble is a knockout and you have chosen the perfect background for its splendor. I have always enjoyed fringe and have a few pieces ready for an outing. You have inspired me once again!
I can’t wait to see what your fringe pieces are and how you will wear them. You always bring your grace and beauty to whatever piece you chose to highlight.

You look fabulous today!!! Loving the hair!
Thank you my dear, the hair is an experiment and so is the color photos, but it is all so much fun. Love you.
Oh, but your version is MUCH better than the typical recycled-70s look.
I see you are also frustrated with the shallowness of yet another retro aesthetic package randomly applied to the present with none of the meaning it originally had. Fashion, as much as I enjoy it, is just so lame about this. Pick a past decade at random, recycle it yet AGAIN with absolutely none of the relevance that it had in its time–and avoid creating fashion that IS relevant to the current time. It’s really very disappointing. But it’s easy for them, it sells, and younger folk are none the wiser. The same cheap impulses drive the constant movie remakes and Disney revivals. :/
So true. That is why it so refreshing that there is so much coverage of "street style", women putting together their own looks from different times, different price points to make something new.

I love the sophistication and edge you bring to fringe my dear! I am so enjoying my fringe backpack that makes for a fun and functional travel piece!
Thank you my dear, I am still reeling from your gorgeous gold crown and skirt that you wore with your new shirt from Ari and Fanny Karst.
Glorious!

A relaxed outfit and a relaxed attitude. Nice look!
Yes, it is getting easier to be more relaxed in the photos. I think the color warms things up as well.

Oh ,I Iove the swoopy bands of that beautiful fabric that
end in that fringe and how it draws the focus to your face!
I agree with Patricia–loving the hair!
Thanks, that piece reflects the genius of Issey Miyake and his beautiful sculptural materials that allow you to wear the piece however you wish.

What an unusual piece.
Your hair, makeup and accessories are looking extra inspired lately.
I have a bit of fringe, on a handbag and a kimono. I do find the kimono a bit challenging to wear. It never seems to stay in place.
bisous

Thank you so much, I have been experimenting for Spring. I would love to see a shot of you in that kimono!

I guess we all differ in our feelings about looking back. To me, returning to the decade of my adolescence is a joy. An unalloyed joy heightened by the fact that today I can wear the female clothing I envied back then. Yes, looking back emphasizes the distance we travelled but, for some of us, that’s a good thing.
You make an excellent point. Things for me are always both/and and never all one way or another. My teens and early 20’s was "the best of times and the worst of times" as they say. It has been quite an excellent journey.
True enough, but historically fringe always makes it’s re-appearances because women do like the movement of it around their bodies. I certainly will continue to wear this piece whether it is on trend or not. You are most certainly right about the bags though.

One seldom can argue about anything you wear. However as someone who lived at the time this ‘fringe’ thing is way overplayed. Every handbag in every 5th Avenue store seems to use fringe in one form or another. Since it is so prevalent as a trend, that means in a year or two all of these bags will no longer be ‘on trend’ and will wind up in consignment stores where there will be not much of a market.

Being THE VINTAGE CONTESSA I would grab a vintage shawl and drape it about me to add another layer of warmth and to cover up perhaps the horrid exercise pant!!I do accessorize to head off to exercise class…………….just makes me feel better.
Sounds like a fabulous bit of flair to add to your exercise clothes, I love it!
