Perhaps it is the fall, perhaps it has something to do with mood and attitude but I have re-committed more than ever to wearing black. Although most times I like to add white to make a contrast, whether that means my white hair only or a white shirt, the main attraction is the restrained arrogance and formality the color always evokes for me. Black helps me to perform the “good bad girl” who is the true core of my personality.
During fashion week I like to attend some of the shows set up for buyers like Capsule and Tranoi. There I will always find rare birds who I might not have discovered if I only looked at the endless streams coming from those attending the mainstream shows. In these spaces I have found talented and exceptional creators including the star of this weeks post: Flor Serani, Creative Director of BlackBlessed.

For personal reasons I was quite interested in Flor’s journey from blogger to creative director of a concept brand that is more than just fashion design. She graciously agreed to answer some of my questions and allowed me to style some of her pieces. She herself is a muse for all of us who worship at the shrine of black. Her Instagram account is full of inspiration. As always, details of what I am wearing can be found in Wednesday’s post as well as the rest of Flor’s interview.
Black is always my go to. I always think of the French women, who adore their black pieces. I feel chic and stylish every time I walk out the door in my ‘Noir’
Great photos of you.
Thank you,
Janet
I love you in black so sophisticated! But then you look fabulous in most colors.
Yes thanks to Coco it is sophisticated and cool.

Today, right this moment. 🙂 I’m in all black except for a grey and black plaid poncho, and feeling happy as a clam. I look forward to checking out the Black Blessed instagram and reading the review.

Love the quote! I have a lot more appreciation for black<3

Me too. Love your blog by the way. Great curation.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a nun. Not for religious reasons. I’m not even Catholic. I just loved their outfits. All that black, flapping as they walked down the street, those crispy white collars and those sensible low heeled lace up nun shoes. I loved it all.
Good for you to voice an opposing position. See Friday’s Fashion Bib for an article related to your position.
Oh my that is how I became addicted, watching the swishing fabrics and beautiful drapes of the nun’s habits in school.
I cleared out a lot of more colorful pieces from my wardrobe because I prefer to be in black. I feel more "me" in them, whereas color at times makes me feel very "girlish."
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
That’s so interesting, color makes me feel older!

On the contrary-I HATE wearing black! It actually makes me feel depressed and washed out. I know I am in the minority, but can’t help it I’m afraid.

Oh Yes. Most of my closet is black.
The issue for me is that while I know I need to add new shapes and textures, my love of the old black wardrobe has trumped my visions of expansion. For example, I’m not giving up my black pants, but I need to add interest each season, by adding to it. That’s one of many reasons, I visit you. I love how you integrate design and wake up the black.
Thanks! That is a great idea for a post: different ways to boost black.

I’m loving your new hairstyle, too.
Actually I met Flor at one of the shows I mentioned in the post Tranoi and Capsule. It is at these under the radar events that I have met and made wonderful designer friends: Wenqui Wu, Milo, Chikimiki, and now Blackblessed. The shirt is actually designed CDG and I wore it in an earlier post about the graphic designer who did the Play logo and the print on that shirt.

No you didn’t meet with Blessed black, and forget to tell us about that white blouse with red and black floral prints on her instagram page.

You look incredible in your black and white ensemble! I have many black pieces in my collections, and I’m sure that I always will. The quote by Flor Serani says it all. Thank you for the introduction to this magnificent designer.
Flor is a true creative in every sense of the word. I love how black looks with grey/white hair and you are almost ready to see what I mean!

Head to toe black. Where do I begin? There is definitely an attitude and confidence that comes with wearing all black. I love the way I look in it, the attention I get. I love mixing textures and fabrics to achieve an extraordinary, contemporary look. Even when I wear other colors, there is always some black in the mix. Funny thing though. I was brought up Catholic, but never found myself fascinated by the garments nuns wore. I always thought they looked so washed out and old! LOL! A child’s perspective at the time.
I was given a black oversized crepe wool, narrow-lapeled jacket by a friend years ago… and I’m still kicking myself for thrifting it when the lining wore out. The most comfortably chic item of apparel I’ve ever had. Still searching for a replacement.

You own very beautiful pieces. Which look ever so good on your frame. And black and white never fails to draw attention and admiration.
