There are just some days when you feel like taking flight. This impetus can come from an external or internal occurrence. It can be urgent or a gentle whisper. These are the times when you want to feel the lightness of being and the air under your wing. When you want relief from the heaviness of worry that sits on your chest, and you feel like you are drowning. When you have to hear bad news and don’t want to. When you want a break from having to face up to impending loss.
Despite it now being December I feel just as I do in warmer weather, I have been wanting clothes that allow the air to circulate, that do not constrain but still are cool and edgy. I want clothes that feel like wings.
Necklace: Aumorfia, Shirt: Balossa, Details on Wednesday
When you want to take flight what clothes do you wear?
Love that necklace too! And pants 🙂
I have been gradually diluting my very structured wardrobe with some softer, drapier pieces. I have this Rick Owens jacket with front draping and a long chiffon panel that is very kinetic – the sort of thing that is unremarkable while standing still but breathtaking when it catches some wind.
Wish I could havre a look at that jacket!
Silver and black such a great combination. When I wear metal it is always silver. My best silver accessory though is my hair.
I’d love to take flight like the snow birds from Canada and simply leave winter behind. Maybe end up on a white beach under a parasol with a good book in hand : ) Yes…winter is a time to take flight.
My clothes aren’t any representation of my desire to leave. They are busy keeping me warm and grounded in reality.
When I want to leave it all behind without leaving my house I put on some yoga clothes and spend an hour away from it all in my body. It’ll have to do for now : )
Your necklace is dramatic.
bisous

Well it seems like you are always with me on this adventure called my blog and for this I am grateful.
Wonderful reminder that there are many ways to take flight and at the end of the day clothes have a very pragmatic function too!

Your posts are always inspiring, beautiful. What would I wear when the impulse to take flight ignites? I have designed and created many a white blouse, never feeling quite satisfied with the issue, but I believe I will try creating a white blouse again! I think I could indeed fly were I to make a peasant style tunic of a white silk charmeuse — with gathered, full, long sleeves — were the sleeves voluminous enough. Yes. I will use at least one entire yard of silk for each sleeve so they will be very long and very blowzy. I will line the body of the tunic with an ivory china silk and will narrowly bind the neck edge and the wrist edge in white velvet. The only remaining question is whether I would wear close fitting black slacks with my white silk tunic, or (like Elaine Stritch in "Shoot Me") no pants at all. Thank you, Accidental Icon, for your lovely blog.
Oh my this shirt sounds like a vision. I can already see the shimmering movement. I vote for the latter compliment!
adore – It looks like my outfit yesterday, except mine was all black (I guess not a surprise).
Nancy, I can guess why you love to wear black. I clicked on SilverEdit and discovered a whole world of the best accessories. Your silver pieces are astounding in their beauty and creativity! They look fantastic against the backdrop of an all black outfit, don’t they?

Yes, some days are all black days!

OMG. Real adventure…
Can I fly with you?
Just took a look at their other designs. Sigh.
And that purse: Yes!

I would like to take flight like a migrating bird and disappear to somewhere warm, for a while.
Sounds good especially after how busy you have been!
