"I would hazard a guess that most people don’t even think clothes are made in such a size." Quoted from "Why Size Is Not Just a Number."
Really? I am a natural size 0 or XXS. But this article is talking about a size 2, which is too big for me. There are lots of us in this size range, as you can see if you watch how fast our size sells out from the better brands on line. What is not mentioned here is that most of us are in the petite category — many 5′ or under. I do not watch my weight particularly, and I am right in the middle of the weight range for women of my height. I am 63 years old. I have worked in the professional world and have endured endless commentary on my size — remarks no one would consider appropriate were they to be made about someone at the other end of the scale. When I have objected even mildly, I’ve been told "but you’re really a big person inside." (Try telling a person of color that they’re really white inside and see how much that endears you.) Being told that "real" women are always larger than I am and that my size should be banned from the catwalks is size-shaming in the same way that banning any other size would be. ALL forms of size-ism are oppressive.
Well said! As someone who is 5’2” and shrinking I at times get similar comments. I keep my weight down because I had a hip replacement 10 years ago and I want it to last as long as it possibly can. That’s what the month of January is about. Being well whatever that means to us as unique individuals.
